Person-Centred Counselling

There are many different approaches to counselling and this can be confusing for someone interested in taking up therapeutic work but who may be unsure what to get involved in.

The approach available through counselling at Abernethy House is called a "Person-Centred Approach". Our belief is that we all as individuals hold within ourselves the resources to resolve our own issues and difficulties. The aim of counselling is to help the client to recover these inherent abilities and to make the necessary changes towards a happier and more positive lifestyle.

This fundamental belief in the possibilities for change underpins all of our work, although other approaches may be used in conjunction - for example the understandings offered by a knowledge of psychodynamic, Gestalt or Transactional Analysis perspectives can assist clients to move forward.
