It is a university town with a long tradition of education and learning as well as a historic capital city rich in culture and heritage. Edinburgh provides a wealth of attractions for young people -- famous sites like the Castle and the Royal Mile for those who are interested in history, museums and galleries, parks, gardens, sports facilities, theatre, music and entertainment. The Edinburgh International Festival, the world's largest arts festival, takes place every August and provides a veritable feast of culture ranging from street theatre to the world's greatest performers.
